Gilberdyke Cricket Club 2010 Annual General Meeting

Meeting Matters!

Main Business of Gilberdyke CC Annual General Meeting, 8th  March 2010

1. Money:

Finances remain sound. Reduced balance for this year but 2009 contained a lot of one-off expenditure. The Club is now debt free.

Main positives:

·         generous sponsorship, especially from Goddard Cleaning Services and Steve Middleton;

·         better match fee collection;

·         fundraising programme;

·         Varied income sources.

Fundraising must become a bigger priority as other sources of funds get tighter due to recession.

Subscriptions and Match Fees:

AGM agreed no increases for this year.

2. Annual Reports:

Alliance Captain (Dave Mell):

Again, Dave felt the team has made enormous strides over the season. Better availability, the addition of talented players such as Ryan Callis had meant some excellent cricket was played.

A much broader range of players had made significant contributions, indicating the greater strength in depth now available. 7 batsmen averaged over 20 and the 4 main bowlers took 19 wickets or more. Dave thanked everyone for their help in 2009, especially Neil Butler for his coordination of team selection.

Independent Captain (Mike Davis):

All youngsters showed real improvement and on occasions looked really competitive. Four wins was a remarkable step forward for this young team. Mike was optimistic for 2010 on the basis of the improvements individuals made in 2009.

Juniors (Andy Pitts, Head Coach):

This had been a very successful season for the juniors, losing only twice and winning the 6-a-side at Welton. It was amazing to see all Juniors make progress in 2009. Coaching was well attended. More coaches were recruited and more work was done in schools. The Fun Day and Kwik Cricket were again a success. The batting masterclass was a particular highlight in an altogether positive season.

Chairman’s Report:

Season 2009 has seen another year’s solid progress for the club, pretty much on all fronts.

Although the final league position of the Alliance team was only two places better (4th) than in 2008, the number of players making significant contributions was greater than at any time in the club’s history. The Alliance team really looked like a team. There was a positive knock-on effect for the Independent League team, which achieved its first 4 victories in 2009 and looked more consistently competitive.

We must of course continue to add to our player strength and last year’s plea to members still stands. As a club member, you too can help by:

bulletRecruiting potential players, either casual or regulars;
bulletBy making sure you yourself are available as often as possible;
bulletBy ensuring that if unavailable, you let your captain know as early as possible.

The efforts of the coaching team are also crucial here and we will continue the active junior programme particularly. We confidently look forward to more impact from youngsters who have gone through the junior ranks on senior teams this season. Again,  sincere thanks to Andy, Neil and all the other coaches for their sterling efforts.

In other respects, there has been good progress. The support of local businesses has been maintained and we remain very grateful for the financial support the club gets from the enormous generosity of these sponsors. Other fundraising options have been exploited but as financial austerity begins to impact, these sources of external funds might reduce. The membership needs to ensure that it is still prepared to commit to its own fundraising efforts, such as 6-a-side and Race Nights. We may well need to be more self reliant financially in the coming years.

The Club was re-awarded Cub Mark in 2009.

All in all, we can still look forward with great confidence to 2010. We enjoy good support from our local community. We have some very good cricketers and highly promising juniors. We continue to develop as a sports club with wider community involvement, mainly through our coaching and work in schools. We remain financially sound and well-served by an active, if still small committee.
