Gilberdke CC 2009 AGM minutes 23rd March 2009
1. Money: Finances remain sound. Some funds added to balances this year. Main positives: · generous sponsorship, especially from Goddard Cleaning Services, 1-2 Clear and Steve Middleton (Gilberdyke Fisheries); · better match fee collection; · fundraising programme.
Main problems: · Reduced match fee income because of cancelled games.
Subscriptions and Match Fees: AGM agreed no increases for this year. Furthermore, Junior Subscriptions were reduced to £5 pa.
2. Annual Reports: Alliance Captain (Dave Mell): Main concerns were weather and lack of commitment from a significant number of players. Final position of 6th showed what might have been if a full team could have been fielded more regularly. Some players from 2nd XI showed great promise in the opportunities absences gave them. Dave felt player numbers must be increased for 2009. Overall Dave felt the team has made enormous strides over the past few years and has the ability to progress even further through the Alliance divisions. Dave thanked everyone for their help in 2008, especially Neil Butler for his coordination of team selection.
Independent Captain (Mike Davis reported in the absence of Craig Willis): The Independent team was too often decimated by 1st team calls. Nonetheless, all youngsters showed real improvement and on occasions looked really competitive. Mike was optimistic for 2009 in the basis of the improvement over 2008 and the increased maturity of younger players.
Juniors (Andy Pitts, Head Coach): Coaching was well attended in spite of the weather. One new coach was added (Tom Bonser) and matt Butler is training. Work in schools continued and we will again host the East Riding Quick Cricket event this summer. There will be one U-12 league in 2009, which will suit our current group. Older juniors from last year are ready to move onto adult cricket for 2009.
Chairman’s Report: The main problem to emerge last year was poor player availability. Absences undoubtedly contributed to poor early season results for both Saturday teams. Combined with the weather, this meant it was difficult to build up any real momentum. Our best 1st XI was better than anything else in our division but we fielded it so rarely, mid-table was all we achieved.
The committee has tried to recruit more players for 2009, not to push anyone out, but to try to make sure we can fulfil all our fixtures. We need to have a large enough pool of players so that we can fill in around a core of players in each team from a much broader membership. As a club member, you too can help by:
We can still look forward with great confidence to 2009. We enjoy good support and sponsorship from our local community. We have some very good cricketers and highly promising juniors. We continue to develop as a sports club with wider community involvement, mainly through our coaching and work in schools. We remain financially sound and well-served by an active, if still small committee, but with others pitching in when required with very big contributions. In particular, I need to mention the group that worked tirelessly on the wicket at last season’s close, led by Ian Houseman. Our work in coaching youngsters is well established and starting to feed players into senior teams. Don thanked all concerned most sincerely.
3. Club Mark: Andy presented the latest position in respect of Club Mark, for which we are currently being re-accredited. Club Mark remains fundamental to the long term future of the Gilberdyke Cricket Club, with clubs without a development plan, a coaching programme for future players and formal accreditation continuing to fall behind in terms of the help they receive as clubs.
4. Election of Officials The following Officials were elected: Chairman: Don Rhodes Treasurer: Andy Pitts Secretary: Vacant (Don Rhodes to continue in acting capacity) Alliance Captain: Dave Mell Alliance V. Captain: Dave Wilde Independent Captain: Mike Davis Ind. Vice Captain: Tom Bonser Committee Members: Neil Butler; Ian Houseman; Rob Branton; Dave Wilde; Tom Bonser. Child Welfare Officer: Andy Pitts Deputy CWO: Neil Butler.
5. Changes to the Constitution: The following changes to the constitution were agreed by the AGM:
· Rules were agreed as to the distribution of any assets, in the eventuality of the club being dissolved. This essentially ensures that assets are allocated to support the development of cricket as locally as possible; · The constitution was amended to confirm Junior Membership as a separate category and that Family Members have no voting rights. This section also confirmed when membership could be refused; · Notice periods for the AGM and EGM were clarified; · The Quorum for an AGM and EGM were amended to 7 members.
